Facebook Messenger Marketing 101 – 7 Ideas You Can Try Today

Hey everyone, Jerry with Vinci Digital. This week we’ll be talking about Facebook and specifically Facebook Messenger Marketing. While other social networks seem to overshadow Facebook, it still plays a pivotal role in online marketing. Facebook’s messenger is an extremely versatile tool and if you don’t know how to use this to build new relationships or engage with current customers, your brand might be fucked.
Facebook messenger is well known for keeping in contact with friends and family, but there are also some amazing ways you can use it for essential marketing services as well. Here are just a few.
#1 is customer acquisition and engaging with followers – you can include the option for your followers to message you directly from your organic posts or create ads where the call to action includes sending a message to you directly instead of clicking through to a web page. This keeps the conversation on Facebook and encourages the user to take immediate action.
#2 Automation – Facebook messenger can be automated to respond to certain questions or ask for additional information from anyone who sends a message. This can help get important information into someone’s hands without having to manually engage in a chat yourself.
#3 Re-engagement – even after the conversation is over, using Facebook messenger you can create opportunities for additional interactions. For example, an option for your Facebook ad campaign is sponsored messages, which allow you to send targeted messages to prospects and customers who have already connected with you through your Facebook business page. Similar to email marketing that you might send to your subscribers, re-engaging with your Facebook followers can produce a higher return on investment and increase your brand awareness.
So those are three great examples of how to use Facebook to expand your marketing efforts but if you’re still not sure, here are a few reasons why you should consider Facebook Messenger in your campaigns.
First, if you’re already using Facebook then you’re already familiar with the platform. It’s much easier to stick with what you know than try and learn something completely new. You understand how your audience uses the platform and how to best engage with them. Messenger is just a natural extension of what you are already doing.
Second, believe it or not, even though you might hate the platform or think it’s a dinosaur or only for “old people,” Facebook messenger’s active users have increased from 1.3 billion in 2017 to 2.4 billion in 2021. That’s a 185% increase in active users in just 4 years. Some users have even gone as far as deleting the Facebook app entirely and only use the messenger app instead.
and Lastly, while I compared messenger to email marketing earlier, there are some significant differences. Email marketing requires you to cut through the chatter in your subscriber’s inbox and it can be a real struggle to get recipients to open emails. I know I literally get hundreds of emails a day and can honestly say more than half I delete without ever opening. Facebook Messenger allows you to send messages directly to your audience in a different location than their inbox which cuts down the clutter.
In addition, one little secret about Facebook’s platform is by default, if someone sends you a message in messenger and you are not actively using the app in that moment, Facebook typically will send an email to that user telling them that “so and so has sent them a message.” So not only are you able to reach your target audience in Facebook Messenger but the notification about your sent message will still hit their inbox. You’re getting twice the exposure, and it costs you NOTHING.
There is a hell of alot more I could cover when it comes to Facebook Messenger. This is literally the tip of the iceberg.
