There are more than 100 primary health care centres on Unguja and Pemba,
Zanzibar Town has the large state-run Mnazi Moja Hospital, but most visitors (and most locals, if they can afford it) use a private facility. Options include Zanzibar Medical Group, a small private clinic, and Zanaid Clinic, where the two European-trained doctors have experience in tropical illness and diving injuries. There’s also Global Hospital, a large medical centre where facilities include casualty/emergency room (with ambulance), surgery, dentist, general physician/practitioner (GP) and pharmacy.
